Anti-virus software keeps your computer and network safe from malicious viruses that can compromise your data and computer systems. I have used many times of anti-virus programs including McAfee, Norton, Trend Micro, AVG, and CA. Most of these require a subscription service and many of them consume your computer’s memory causing programs to run slowly. I recommend the free version of AVG or Avira. I have found these anti-virus packages to out perform all of the major anti-virus systems including McAfee and Norton. I have also seen them catch viruses faster! If your computer is running slow, you might want to see if your anti-virus software is “hogging” all of the system memory. You can download the free versions of AVG and Avira here:

Every Microsoft Windows operating system has a registry. Your system registry holds a wealth of information about your computer, which is why we constantly hear from users that after using their PC for a short length of time, it no longer works the way it used to. This is due in part to invalid entries that exist in your system registry, that might exist because of software you are no longer using or software that was not properly removed. By removing these invalid entries, you can significantly increase the performance of your PC.
